Difficult Lies

Thin lie – “Up tight”

Weight more on left foot.
Stand closer to ball.
Heel of club off the ground.
Contact ball on toe area.
Never use sand iron – too high a leading edge.

Ball above feet

Take one more club, ¾ swing, control shot.
Stand closer to ball and choke down.
Aim to right of target.
Closed shoulders, ball backwards in stance.
Whole sole of club touches the ground.

Ball below feet

Stand closer and widen stance.
Move ball forward, upright stance.
Aim left of target.
Don’t make a full swing, rather aim for solid contact.

Ball buried in grass

Club head must rest on heel.
Aim to right of target.
Stand further from ball.
Hands low, contact middle.
Hit the ball first!

Uphill lie

Open stance, left foot back.
Tilt shoulders same as slope.
Hit up the slope.

How:
Take extra club, shoulders parallel to slope, stance wider for balance, ball forward,  swing with slope.

Downhill lie

Closed stance, right foot back.
Choke down, use more lofted club.
Stay down through shot.
Swing more with arms.

How:
Take less club, shoulders parallel to slope, wide stance for balance, swing down slope.
